The first passenger train from Baku to Agdam departed after 32 years
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, one of the AZCON Holding companies, started passenger transportation on the Baku-Agdam-Baku route on August 30, 2025.
After 32 years, the train traveling towards Karabakh reached the Agdam Railway and Bus Station complex with a full load.
The Baku-Agdam-Baku railway will not only increase the accessibility of public transport in the Karabakh economic region, but will also support the socio-economic revival of Agdam and surrounding regions, and the expansion of Azerbaijan's transport capabilities in this region.
It should be noted that the Baku-Agdam-Baku train departs from Baku to Aghdam every Saturday at 07:10 and from Aghdam to Baku at 18:20. In order to organize comfortable trips, entry permits to the liberated territories are automatically provided. The trips are carried out on the modern FLIRT train, manufactured by the Swiss company Stadler.
It should be noted that, until the occupation period, passenger transportation from Baku to Agdam was carried out by a sleeper train running on the Baku-Khankendi-Baku route. Trains last operated on the Baku-Agdam-Baku route in 1993. At that time, the 371 km distance to Agdam by train took 8 and a half hours.
